As a youngster I enjoyed art classes in school, particularly painting and drawing. Believing that artists
only made money after they died - hence the term “starving artist”, I obtained
my college degree in science and reserved art as a hobby. I am a self-taught
artist and with a BS in Biology, I now combine my skills as a photographer with
the knowledge of natural environments.
Working several years in the
health insurance and pharmaceutical industries, I have had the pleasure to live
in many places along the eastern U.S. before settling down into my Appalachian
hometown. I have had the opportunity to extensively travel and photograph many
beautiful places, experiencing not only the unique landscape but a wide range of
cultures as well. My personal style is a reflection of such experiences and is
a virtual melting pot of different inspirations. As you can see, my work
encompasses a very wide range. I do not rely on subject or technique alone. I
am sure those are important skills but, much like painting – knowing how to work
with paint brushes is not enough to create a masterpiece.
Because the art of photography completely stops time, it allows a moment to last forever. My goal
is to capture that single moment of nature’s majestical beauty and combine it
with my own style and expression – ultimately creating artwork that will speak
for itself.
This is a continuous and
ongoing growth in evolution of my work and I sincerely thank you for your
interest. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy creating it.
Sincerely,
Lynn A. Dixon
PS) As an added bonus, I
have included a paper I recently found (seen below). I wrote it in the 5th
grade as an assignment honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is simply a
personal reaffirmation that all things in life are indeed cyclic. If you listen
to your heart and follow your dreams (irregardless of age), success is
inevitable.
